Opposition is politicising the prime minister’s Muzaffarnagar visit
This is with reference to PM, Sonia,Rahul vow justice(September 17). Manmohan Singh’s Muzaffarnagar visit has unnecessarily been politicised by Opposition parties. As prime minister, it is Singh’s prerogative to visit areas that have been affected by riots. I feel he should have gone there earlier to console the victims, considering the Akhilesh Yadav government’s failure to control the riots since they broke out on August 27. The governor’s adverse report on the state government should have prompted the PM to tour the area. With little hope in sight, Manmohan Singh’s soothing words would have done wonders for the people affected by one of the worst riots to have hit the state.

Fixation over Narendra Modi points to a lack of leadership
With reference to One size does not fit all (Left Hand Drive, September 17) Sitaram Yechury has rightly mentioned that India has no dearth of leaders. The article seems to be aimed at the RSS and BJP for choosing Narendra Modi as the party’s PM candidate. While they argue that Modi is a popular leader, for many people he is associated with the 2002 Gujarat riots. Gujarat has developed not because of Modi but because of the entrepreneurship of the people of that state. He is not for ‘vikas’ but will lead to ‘vinash’. The fixation over Modi shows that in a country of a hundred billion people there is a serious leadership void.
