Ambitious transport projects have put us on a rocky road
This refers to the report Sheila promises 14 more BRTs (March 23). Transport projects like Bus Rapid Transit system, flyovers, cycle tracks and low-floor buses have not reduced traffic congestion, accidents and vehicular pollution. There is no integrated transport policy in the country. No wonder, the government projects turn out to be counterproductive and end up helping the contractors and consultants.

Silence is not his only fault
Barkha Dutt in Sounds of silence (Third Eye, March 19) rightly criticises the UPA government for its tardy response to the scathing attack launched on it by the Opposition. The WikiLeaks cables have opened a can of worms, turning the UPA government into cannon fodder for the Opposition. The principle ‘silence is golden’ doesn’t seem to apply in the current situation.

Dutt’s analysis does not go below the surface. The problem with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh goes much deeper than his silence, given that he leads possibly the most corrupt government ever in India. The time has come to stop calling him a man of honesty and integrity. Condoning corruption is as damaging as being corrupt.
