It all ended well for India 11 and this nation of one billion
Congratulations to Team India for winning the ICC World Cup. The entire country had waited eagerly for the moment when the World Cup would be in our hands. Apart from the spectacular win, the 2011 World Cup also gave us memorable moments that we will cherish for a long time to come. This includes the anthem 'de ghuma ke' as well as our maverick captain MS Dhoni's thrilling knock in the end. In spite of the pressure, our cricketers have fulfilled our expectations.

Losing battle for the girl child
With reference to the editorial Our girls, interrupted (Our Take, April 2), the dip in sex ratio from 927 to 914 girls for every 1,000 boys during the last decade is shocking and a matter of shame for Indian society. Our girls have been winning national and international acclaim but society persists on treating the girl child as a liability. Social activists must educate people while the law meant to curb female infanticide and foeticide needs to have harsher provisions for the guilty.
