Mamata, muddle, meddle, mess, make-believe, meaningless
With reference to the editorial Let’s take it as read (The Pundit, March 29), West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to ban English newspapers from public libraries in the state is a regressive one. This comes only a few days after Banerjee, the first woman chief minister of the state, advised women not to go to pubs or blame her government for law and order problems. It seems the chief minister’s world is fast shrinking and soon she will be left with only sycophants around her.

The present West Bengal government is following more-or-less the same policies that were adopted by the Left Front. During its rule, the CPI(M) ensured that no other newspaper other than its mouthpiece — Ganashakti — could be distributed in rural Bengal. Most of us also know about the ban on English language in primary schools in the 1970s. In fact, one bunch of thugs has replaced another bunch of thugs at Writers’ Building.

Physician, heal thyself is apt here
The report Minor help starves as doctor couple holidays (March 30) is a sad commentary on our society. But what I fail to understand is why the media and the Delhi Police did not disclose the names and photographs of the offenders. Such heartless people should be exposed and punished for their inhuman treatment of the little girl. How can such doctors ever treat patients? I am sure they only know how to extract money. The authorities must cancel their medical licence and take strong action against the doctor-couple.
