The tension in Pakistan over Memogate has aggravated to a point where both sides are accusing each other of hatching conspiracies to subvert one another. Though President Zardari has returned to Pakistan, the rumours of an impending coup have not subsided. Pakistan's history reminds us that the likelihood of the army overturning a civilian government and propping up a puppet regime can never be ruled out.

Well within their rights
The comments made by the Bombay High Court on the anti-corruption campaign of Anna Hazare are unfair (HC slams Anna, says fast can be nuisance for some, December 24). It must be noted that in a republic, sovereignty is vested in the people. Peaceful agitation is the collective exercise of people's right to expression. There is nothing that prevents people from expressing their opinion on what is happening inside Parliament.

No real mindspace for them
With reference to the editorial Only funds will not be enough (Our Take, December 25), it is shameful that people suffering from mental disorders do not have access to proper medical facilities. The government should make budgetary allocations to provide for an adequate number of clinical psychiatrists, social workers and nurses.
