The mock drill made a mockery of Delhi's infrastructural planning
With reference to the editorial Shaking things up (The Pundit, February 20), the authorities who conducted the recent mock earthquake drill in the capital should have known that Delhi lacks the infrastructure to support such exercises. They tried to do a Tokyo in disaster management but soon realised that the city doesn't have the basics right. The authorities have now gone back to the drawing board and are planning to set up committees to ascertain the 'nature' of the problem when they should have done it before conducting the drill.

Fast, furious and fatal
The tragic death of a 26-year-old man on the BRT on Sunday once again highlights the fact that most Indians have scant regard for road safety and traffic rules (Fast & fatal: 200 kmph crash on BRT kills 1, February 20). The victim in this case, like in many others, was driving his car way above the speed limit and had not fastened his seat belt. It's wrong to blame the authorities alone for such accidents. Most of the accidents are a result of drivers' disregard for the safety both of themselves and others.

Too many counters to the NCTC
This refers to the report 'Govt can't win war on terror without states' (February 19). The home minister has asked the chief ministers of various states to give their views on the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) after the discussions are over. The Centre should have got the states on board when the idea of forming a national anti-terror body was being discussed, not now, when barely two weeks are left for the NCTC to come into effect.
