No reason for Mayawati to be so cut up about Aarakshan
The Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to ban Prakash Jha’s latest movie Aarakshan, whose central theme is caste reservations in educational institutions, highlights state chief minister Mayawati’s insecurity (UP bans Jha’s Aarakshan over poll reservations, August 11). The Censor Board wouldn’t have passed Jha’s movie if it had deemed it objectionable. If the UP government didn’t ban a movie like Delhi Belly, it doesn’t have the right to ban Aarakshan, which aims at spreading awareness about a serious social problem.

Interest rates don’t interest them
As expected, the Reserve Bank of India’s recent revision of the repo rate to check rising prices hasn’t returned positive results (Food inflation rate near double digits, August 12). Inflation can’t be contained overnight. Instead of looking for solutions at the 11th hour, we must learn to take preventive measures. The common man doesn’t care about the ideal rate of interest, growth or inflation. What matters to him the most is if an improvement in these figures brings down the prices of essential commodities.

T3’s still far from grounded
It’s shocking to learn that Delhi international airport’s security is in a shambles (T3 security is one-eye blind, find police, CISF, August 12). The government spent crores to build a state-of-the-art airport, which is supposed to be one of the best in the world. But the recent reports on the frequent power cuts and leakages in the airport have shown us the dark side of this hype. Is the government waiting for these problems to lead to an accident before it demands an explanation from the agency that handles the airport’s maintenance?
