Pakistani cricketers bowled themselves out of the game
The report Aamer shocked as ICC bans Pakistan trio (February 6) makes it seem that the ICC ruling is unfairly harsh on Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer. The cricketers have brought the punishment on themselves due to their greed. Cricket has ceased to be a gentleman's game, and is now in the grip of businessmen, bookmakers, film stars and politicians. The Pakistan government should punish those cricketers who brought shame to their country.

His concern means nothing
The report PM: Corruption hurting image at home, abroad (February 5) says that the prime minister is concerned with the decay in our governance that has made the economic condition of the common man pitiable. His remarks are amazing, given that Singh lacked the nerve to utter a single word about the recent scams. He does not deserve the adulation heaped on him.

Get to the root of violence
The increasing cases of rape and molestation in the capital are really a matter of grave concern for the authorities (Dhaula Kuan again: girl molested, February 7). The government's corrective is limited to putting the rapist behind bars but this is failing to act as a deterrent. It treats the crime as a fulfillment of sexual desires and does not take into account the perpetrator's psychological disorder that led him to commit such violence.
