Can you beat this? A thrashing for errant Metro commuters
This refers to the report Women thrash men riding in ladies coach (November 27). The incident brings to light the barbarity of the Haryana police personnel. Police officials don't have the right to beat up people for a petty mistake like travelling in the wrong compartment of the Metro.

It is true that the men who were travelling in the women's coach broke the rule. They should have been fined and punished as per the Metro's rules. The Gurgaon police commissioner should tender an apology for the inappropriate behaviour of the constables.

Roy must pay for disloyalty
The Delhi High Court's order to register a criminal case against Arundhati Roy and SAR Geelani for their anti-India speeches is welcome (Prosecute Geelani, Roy, says court, November 28). Roy is a publicity-seeking anti-nationalist and her views shouldn't be taken seriously. But that doesn't mean that she shouldn't be punished for her disloyalty to the nation.

The need to judge the judges
This refers to the report Angry SC slams ‘rotten' Allahabad High Court (Nov. 27). The Supreme Court's observation on rampant corruption and nepotism in the Allahabad High Court is indicative of the rot in the judiciary at large. Transferring corrupt judges to other courts is not a solution. They should be barred from practising law until their innocence isn't proved.
