The Visva-Bharati incident is a matter of concern for parents

With reference to the editorial Worth raising a stink about (Our Take, July 11), it is appalling that Visva-Bharati Uni-versity’s Patha Bhavan School is trying to protect warden Uma Poddar (picture above), who forced a student to drink her own urine in the garb of traditional cure. The warden should be duly punished for this. The incident is a cause for concern for parents who depend on school authorities for the well-being and safety of their children.

Abort all dialogues with Pakistan

I disagree with the editorial The good, the bad & the ugly (Our Take, July 10). There’s no reason to be optimistic about Pakistan’s attitude towards India. At a time when anti-India outfits like Difa-e-Pakistan enjoy State patronage, there’s no reason for New Delhi to continue its engagements with Islamabad. India has never benefited from bilateral talks with Pakistan. They are a waste of time, energy and money. So it’s high time the prime minister made it clear to the president of Pakistan that India won’t participate in any dialogue as long as Pakistan is not serious about bringing the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice.
