We must focus on fighting better the real enemies of our State
With reference to the editorial Act tough on red terror, (Our Take, May 27), there seem to be a number of lessons that one can learn from the recent Naxal attack on the Congress convoy in Bastar.
The Naxals have a stronghold in many parts of the country and the Centre must declare an all-out war against this movement and should check all supply routes of money and materials to the Naxals. The government must at least adopt standard operating procedures while operating in the Naxal-infested areas. To tackle this menace, it is imperative that all parties work in cooperation with each other.

The recent killing of about 27 people by Naxals in Chhattisgarh is a dastardly and cowardly act. It is unfortunate that senior party leader Mahendra Karma, who was instrumental in the forming of Salwa Judum, was killed in the attack. The Centre must tackle this issue with an iron hand. The growth of Naxalism is the result of political failure.
Unemployed village youth should be properly engaged and Naxal-infested areas should be developed. Without such moves, combating Naxalism will be a difficult task for the government.

A good script for future dialogue
Omair Ahmad in It’s time to break the ice (May 27), rightly stresses on the importance of communication between the two sexes. As we are moving ahead with colossal inventions in the fields of technology, life sciences, etc, it is important that the communication gap between the two sexes recedes.
The condition is perhaps not as alarming in urban areas as compared to the rural areas since interaction between the sexes is inevitable in the metros. In India, it seems, it is definitely time to break the ice.
