With reference to Srinivasapuram Krishnaswamy’s article Mayday, mayday (February 4), the $20-billion Rafale deal between the India and the French company Dassault is good news for the country. But the government must realise that buying such expensive machines won’t solve its long-term problems. India will never be seen as a developed country till it starts meeting its own defence requirements. To overcome this problem and develop our homegrown firepower, the government must give the scientists and engineers at the Defence Research & Develop-ment Organisation better pay package and resources.

Freedom of expression has limits
Namita Bhandare’s article Question nothing (Another Day, February 4) on the cancellation of Sanjay Kak’s movie Jashn-e-Azadi by Symbiosis College shows her ignorance of history. In her effort to criticise the ABVP, she ignored the fact that the Kashmir problem exists because of the blunders we have made in the past. She should realise that freedom of expression cannot be at the cost of national interests.

Shut them out of the picture
With reference to the editorial Lusted, and busted (The Pundit, February 9), it is shocking that some Karnataka ministers were watching pornographic clips in the assembly. Such ministers should be punished immediately and a proper enquiry must be conducted.
