Protect children instead of protecting criminals
Lalita Panicker in her article No shot in the arm (March 16) addresses a genuine and grave problem. Inadequate immunisation cannot be excused when crores of rupees are spent in organising games or are being siphoned off through scams.

Unfortunately, instead of addressing these issues, the UPA 2 government is busy covering up for successive scams and other irregularities.

The benefits outweigh the risks
The editorial Don't press the panic button (Our Take, March 16) rightly points out that we must not take nuclear power off the table despite the crisis in Japan. There are risks with every technology but the benefits of nuclear technology outweigh the risks.

We must, however, learn a lesson from Fukushima and have a complete audit of the safety measures at our nuclear plants.

Such a high price for power
Praful Bidwai's article A murky meltdown (March 16) is well-written. No one needs power at the cost of losing the whole of humanity.
