Despite failing to prove his potential, Vusi Sibanda the crisis in the national side meant that he kept his place long after others would have been discarded. It is said that Sibanda's selection in the team is mainly because of his outstanding potential rather than actual performance.

He suffered a hand injury early on in the West Indies tour, but took his opportunities when given them, and finished the tour with a 78.
