The fate of the much-hyped service of posting the vehicle registration certificate and driving licence to applicants hangs in balance.

The project was scheduled to start from April 1, but even though a month has passed, the administration has no idea when the project will finally see the light of the day.

“We have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the postal department and were hoping that the service would begin by April 1. We will try to initiate the facility as soon as possible,” said deputy commissioner PC Meena.

Nearly 300 vehicles are registered in Gurgaon everyday and a huge rush is witnessed at the e-Disha centre.

Similarly, long queues are witnessed at the driving licence counter too. Had the project been initiated, it would have saved the time of applicants, who sometimes are compelled to miss their offices to obtain the same.

“People like me are compelled to take a day off to get things done,” said Jagdev Singh, an applicant at the e-Disha centre.

As per the proposal, a separate counter will be set up at the e-Disha centre in the Mini Secretariat. An official of the Indian postal department will be available at the centre.

People need to pay Rs. 20 extra for availing the service.

Initially, areas falling under the Gurgaon and Manesar tehsil will be covered.

Further, applicants will be intimated through SMS that their RC or DL is ready and being sent through speed post at their home address.
