The results were long awaited, as those who had filled the forms for the exam scheduled in 2001 could not appear in the same due to delays on the part of the government and again in 2003.

The aspirants from 2001, though being overage, thus had to be admitted in this exam conducted finally in August 2005 (prelims). The main examination was conducted between May 19 and June 3, 2006.

According to PSC sources, 1.12 lakh candidates appeared for the preliminary test. Of these, 7,960 candidates were selected for main examination of which 540 qualified according to the merit, and will appear for the final stage of interviews.

Of the 540 posts, 265 are for general candidates, 65 are reserved for SC candidates, 66 for ST, 85 for OBC, 13 for physically challenged and 46 posts are reserved for ex-servicemen.
