Walia got a clear victory over Mahendra of Travo Travels and J S Singhal of Vasundhara Travels, Bhopal, for the post of chairman. After his victory, Walia spoke about the need to promote tourism in the State with the support of hotels and airlines.
He informed that Kingfisher and Emirates Airlines were considering making airline taxes commissionable for travel agents. Walia later assured that he would safeguard the interests of travel agents.
Jet Airways sales manager Malvika Ahuja announced that flights on Raipur-Delhi and other sectors would start soon with an additional flight for Indore-Mumbai.
Travel Agents Association of India secretary general Shubada Joshi and chairman (Northern region) Subhash Verma conducted the elections.
