Sea shells, glass sheets, mica stones, gold leaves and mother-of-pearl are among the latest wallpapers to hit the market. Laura Romanoff of Maya Romanoff, a designing firm, says her clients want that silvery touch, so many opt for copper on their walls. “Wood on the walls also looks terrific. It’s not just for the walls.. the bar unit, the wardrobe shutter and any furniture item can be coated with wallpaper furnishings to create a classic ambience,” says Romanoff.

Unlimited options
She says, geometric patterns along with oriental and floral prints are a rage worldwide. These come in a subtle tone and are visually appealing. Many also go in for the classic marquetry design for a more elegant look. “ People love to experiment.. and with wallpapers your options are limitless,” explains Romanoff.

Interior designer, Nikeeta Mehta suggests wallpapers to all her clients. She says that in Mumbai, painting can be a time consuming process. Those suffering from asthma or allergies should ideally avoid paints. “Wallpapers in plain stripes or solid bold colours.. are a better alternative,” says Mehta.

She adds that for theme-based interiors, wallpapers work wonders and are always in demand. Something as drastic as jazzygraphiti is in vogue.

Straight line patterned wallpapers go well with modern, that which make space more minimalist.

Those who like a splash of bright colour can opt for plain wallpapers in strong shades. “A lot can be done with wallpaper coverings,” says Manyar. “Maintenance is no problem at all.. washable wallpapers are perfect for home makers.”
