FIRDAUS A Wani has been appointed as the first registrar of the Allahabad University after it got central status. Till now he has held the post of the registrar of National Institute of Technology, Srinagar.
The appointment was confirmed through a fax message sent by the Under Secretary, Ministry of Human Resources Development SS Mahlawat on Monday. Earlier, a fax message with regard to appointment of the first Finance Officer of the varsity was also received here.
The appointment has been made by the Central Government by using its power conferred upon it by Section 45 (1) (b) of the University of Allahabad Act, 2005, which states that the first Registrar and the first Finance Officer shall be appointed by the Central government and each of the officers shall hold the office for a period of three years with effect from the date of assuming their respective office.
Allahabad University Teachers Association AUTA (Y) president Yogendra Tiwari and secretary Bhaskar Jha have welcomed the appointment of the full-time Registrar and Finance Officer.
