Nicknamed the "Burewala Express" after his hometown in Pakistan, captain Waqar has earned a reputation as one of the most feared fast bowlers in recent cricketing history.

A devastating late inswing adds the final touches to a fast and full bowling style that leaves batsmen more worried about protecting their toes than their heads.

Despite an innocuous debut against India in 1989, "Wiki" as he is known, stormed to international recognition the following year with his amazing performances at the Sharjah Stadium.

Waqar broke all sorts of records on his rise to the top, including becoming the youngest player to reach 200 Test wickets and the fastest player to reach 200 one-day wickets.

Time and injuries have taken their toll on his speed, but he remains a lethal paceman, with an average of under 25 and best figures of 7-36 against England in 2001.

Like many Pakistan captains before him, Waqar has also weathered mixed fortunes since his appointment in 2001.
