"The deal is expected to involve cricket commentary as well as other assignments like public appearance for sports related matters," the Herald Sun reported on Thursday.

Talks between Warne's management and Channel Nine's chief executive Eddie McGuire are at an advanced stage and the deal is expected to be announced within six weeks, the paper said.

The 36-year-old is Test cricket's highest wicket taker with 685 scalps.

Interestingly, it was the Nine network which had revoked its contract with Warne after his several sex scandals went public during the Ashes last year.

The leg-spinner's association with the broadcaster goes back to 1994.

The Channel Nine commentary team already has stalwarts such as Richie Benaud, Ian Chappell, Mark Taylor, Ian Healy, Tony Greig and Mark Nicholas.

Warne may also launch his own clothing brand for the company.
