ISSUING A production warrant against underworld don Abu Salem here on Thursday, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Kumar Dangi ordered that the don be brought to Bhopal by December 15.
Salem is the main accused in a fake passports case in Bhopal while the co-accused – Salem’s girlfriend and actress Monica Bedi – was produced for hearing in the same case on Thursday. Her counsel, P C Bedi, objected to the application produced by another accused – Siraj – requesting permission for him to be converted into a Government witness.
Monica’s defence counsel submitted a petition urging the court to hear the defence first before allowing Siraj’s conversion into a Government witness.
During the deposition of a witness Naseem, the defence counsel submitted a revision petition against Monica’s version not being heard prior to charges being framed. The plea would be heard on November 1.
Another application filed by P C Bedi – requesting more time for studying the case – was, however, rejected by the court. CJM Dangi said regular appointment of new counsel and seeking of more time by the defence was delaying the case, which the court did not consider proper.
Monica lodged at the Central Jail here - was brought to the packed court premises at about 1.30 pm. Clad in a black T-shirt and blue jeans, she was surrounded by women police personnel. The hearing will continue on Friday. The public prosecutor submitted a list of 32 witnesses and two have deposed earlier.
