The hospital administration through government counsel has sought a week’s time from the bench of Justice S C Vyas to submit a time-bound plan for proper functioning of the incinerator and its maintenance. It informed the court that a committee had been formed for construction of effluent treatment plant.

Despite the MHY’s assurance, the court appeared displeased with lackadaisical attitude of State’s largest government hospital to put in place a safe mechanism for disposal of bio-medical waste. The court stressed that the hospital start incinerator at full capacity at the earliest.

MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) had filed a petition against the hospital saying that the absence of safe disposal of bio-medical waste (surgically removed body organs, human blood, used syringes etc) was harming the environment and raising risk of infection.
