Another day, another intellectual adventure to know the function and the importance of ‘A Word’.

We often hear statements such as ‘those are only words’ but it is well known to all of us that a word can be used to deceive as well as illuminate any certain object/discourse.

Words are powerful and so is time and memory. People do not tend to forget especially when it comes to politics.

We tried a variation of ‘A word’ exercise to get a glance at the people’s perception of the political parties contending for the upcoming elections in Delhi. Respondents were asked in one word, what’s the first thing that comes to their mind when they think of the Congress, the BJP, and the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Congress and BJP were addressed with words like ‘manipulative’, ‘corrupt’, ‘biased’ and ‘swindler’.

The HT team went to those people to whom the election and the results will matter the most ie the common man.

For the political party with the broom symbol, the news is good, for a major proportion of people do have hopes with and for the party.
