Waterworks department officials said supply schedule was changed so that it could dovetail with morning power cuts. Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member in charge of waterworks department Munnalal Yadav confirmed the change in timings, but refused further comment. The IMC has long tried to persuade the power utility to shut off electricity during water supply hours in the morning.

This, argue officials, would ensure equitable distribution of water by preventing residents from plugging in booster pumps directly to the supply mains, a common practice in many localities.

The following overhead tanks (OHTs) would be affected by the change in supply schedule. Eastern areas: Bilawali, Bhanwarkuan, Radio Colony, PWD, Yeshwant Club, Tukoganj Cotton Adda, Bajrang Nagar, Bhagirathpura, Nanda Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Scheme No 54, Krishi Nagar and Mahavir Nagar. Western areas: Annapoorna, Raj Mohalla, Sadar Bazaar, Subhash Chowk, Gandhi Hall, BSF, Maharana Pratap Nagar, Pagnispaga, Gadi Adda, Hawa Bangla and Scheme No 71.
