Wave against Raman Singh govt: Charan Das Mahant

In the Chhattisgarh election, both the BJP and the Congress are running high on confidence. While the ruling BJP said it would retain power, the opposition Congress is equally sure it won’t.

The union minister and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Charan Das Mahant said that people of the state had voted for a change and that he was confidence the Congress would form the next government.

In the second and last phase of polling for the 72 seats of the legislative assembly on Tuesday, Mahant claimed that his party would get at least 54 seats out of 90.

“There is a wave against the Raman Singh government. It started from Bastar and will now spread across the state. We are forming the next government,” he said. The people of the state were tired of BJP misrule and wanted a change of governance, the PCC chief said.

According to Mahant, rampant corruption in the Raman Singh government was the prime reason for people voting Congress. He also emphasised that the “pro-poor Congress manifesto” was what the state needed.

However, when asked to comment on who would become chief minister in the event of a Congress win, Mahant tactically left it to the “party leadership.” He remained evasive on the undercurrents of alleged tussle between him and former chief minister Ajit Jogi about the probable choices in case of a Congress victory.
