Ways to improve governance discussed

A REGIONAL workshop on ?improving governance? was organised at Academy of Administration here on Wednesday in collaboration with National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment as follow-up of the India Corruption Study?2005 released by the President last year and a subsequent national seminar in New Delhi.

A REGIONAL workshop on ‘improving governance’ was organised at Academy of Administration here on Wednesday in collaboration with National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment as follow-up of the India Corruption Study–2005 released by the President last year and a subsequent national seminar in New Delhi.

In his inaugural address on the occasion, Governor Balram Jakhar stressed on the need to adopt measures for improving governance. Keynote speaker Lokayukta Justice R Dayal briefed the gathering about the linking of corruption and mal-administration, as affecting the common man.

The workshop discussed various tools of improving governance, including the Right to Information, Citizens’ Charters, e-governance, social audit and report card.

It was unanimously stressed that the issue of governance needs to be taken seriously and the common man should be made aware of its existence and usage.

“Bureaucracy, judiciary and other wings of administration should be made accountable and all relevant information should be put on the websites of concerned departments,” felt majority of participants.

Transparency International India Chairman Admiral (retd) R H Tahiliani delivered the welcome address.
