He was inaugurating a three-day workshop on VLSI technologies being organised by department of communication and electronics at the seminar hall complex in MNNIT premise on Monday.

Prof Samaddar said that the institute was making an endeavour for advance research in the field of nano-technology, VLSI and biotechnology, and in this regard foreign collaboration was also being mooted.

The inaugural session of the three-day workshop which is being organised under World Bank-funded TEQIP programme and in collaboration with Trident Techlabs, witnessed some very informative lectures by eminent experts like Prof Sudarshan Tiwari, Dean (Research and Consultancy), Prof Rajeev Tripathi, convenor of workshop, Prof Krishna Kant and Prof AK Misra, Head, computer science department.

Prof Rajeev Tripathi said that the workshop aimed at imparting the basics of VLSI design and exposure to complete custom IC design environment using Silvaco IC CAD tools which had been procured under TEQIP programme.

He said that three-day workshop which was being attended by faculty members of various institutes, engineers and scholars, would have two sessions on each day.

The first session would be based on theories of VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration of Circuits) including design methodologies, schematic editor, spice circuit simulators for analog designs, design rule checkers. The second session would be practical training orientated in which eminent experts would impart first hand experience to attendees, he said.
