WCL bags environment excellence award

WCL bags the award for excellent record in integrating environmental protection measures in its programmes.

The public sector undertaking, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has bagged the prestigious "Greentech Environment Excellence Award" for this year for outstanding achievement in environment management.

The coveted silver trophy has been bestowed on WCL's ISO 14001 accredited Padmapur opencast mine in Chandrapur distirct. The award was presented by Goa Governor S C Jamir during the 7th annual International Conference on Environment Management of Greentech Foundation at Goa recently, a WCL release said on Tuesday.

WCL's excellent track record in integrating environmental protection measures in its developmental programme has been recognized by various national organisations earlier. It has bagged the Vanashree award of Maharashtra government, Jawaharlal Nehru memorial award from International Greenland Society, World Environment Congress award, Environment Millennium 2000 and Indira Gandhi Memorial award.

The coal company was planting five lakh trees every year and was regularly monitoring environment parameters, the release added.
