State Youth Congress president Mohammad Amin Bhat has enrolled many persons from the Valley and in this process some former militants and over ground workers have joined the Congress to protect themselves from the security forces.

Senior Congress leaders have appraised the high command on the prevailing situation. They have alleged that Youth Congress secretary Hilal Ahmed is a Pakistan-trained militant and was in active cadre of Hizbul Muzahideen.

Party workers have informed the high command that not only Hilal Ahmed, but Abdul Hamid Bhat of Baramulla and Anayat Ullah Rather of Anatnag were also active with the militants and now they have not only been included in the Congress, but are also being provided the security cover which is tarnishing the image of party in the Valley.

The image of YC in the Valley is now emerging as the party of criminals and if this continues, there would hardly be any difference between Hurriyat and Congress,” said a senior Congress leader.

When contacted, Youth Congress president Mohammed Amin Bhat, said there is no proper procedure for recruitment of Congress workers and he has recruited only those youth whom he personally knew for the past many years.

Congress leaders of the state are not happy with the my functioning, as I have infused energy to the dying party in the Valley. Now, the other party workers are giving wrong details to the high command to put hurdles in my way,” said Bhat.

Meanwhile, AICC observer Harcharan Josh is in Jammu to review the progress of the membership drive of Congress in the state.
