West Indies thump B'desh by 138 runs

Chris Gayle and Wavell Hinds shared a 192-run opening stand while Mervyn Dillion knocked the top off Bangladesh's batting order to guide West Indies to a 138-run victory in their Champions Trophy match on Wednesday.

Gayle scored 99 and Hinds added 82 in West Indies 269 for three then Dillon ripped through the Bangladesh top order taking four for 26 in his opening spell at the Rosebowl in Southampton before finishing with career-best figures of five for 29.

Aftab Ahmed (21) and Mushfiqur Rahman (21) provided some resistance for Bangladesh in a 45-run sixth-wicket partnership that was required after they had slumped to 26 for five in the ninth over, while Khaled Mahmud frustrated the bowlers to make a stubborn 34 not out.

West Indies now meet South Africa in their final Pool B match on Saturday at the Oval in London, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.
