West Midnapore situation to reviewed

West Bengal Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty, along with other senior officials, would review situation in the Maoist violence-hit West Midnapore district in a high-level meeting on October 27 in Midnapore.

West Bengal Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty, along with other senior officials, would review situation in the Maoist violence-hit West Midnapore district in a high-level meeting on October 27 in Midnapore.

"The schedule was set earlier and it still stands despite some development in an area under the district threatened by Left Wing Extremism ," state Chief Secretary told reporters.

Development aspects at Lalgarh and adjacent Maoist-hit areas, besides joint operation in the Maoist-hit area under West Midnapore district by the central security forces and the West Bengal police would be discussed in Midnapore on October 27.

The meeting would be also attended by Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen and Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh, besides the DM, SP and other senior officials in the district, Chakraborty said.

Their visit would be preceded by a delegation of secretaries to assess how development works in the area could be expedited.

Secretary-level delegations had visited Lalgarh on several occasions earlier too.
