Usually it is women who are blamed for their extravagance, and love for shopping but things are definitely changing with men becoming more conscious of their looks.

Designer glasses, sexy clothes or stylish shoes — they want it all, at all costs, quite literally. Extravagant designer Rohit Bal, who’s known for his style, admits to having a fetish for shoes. Not ready to call himself a collector of shoes, Rohit says, “If I like it, I’ll have to buy it no matter what. I’ve got some 20 pairs of shoes. I buy shoes and stop wearing them when I feel like.” Rohit colour-coordinates his shoes with his ‘designer’ clothes. That must be quite a lot, considering that every pair is a designer piece and must have cost him a bomb.
Adman Prahlad Kakkar, who owns 20-30 pairs, shares Rohit’s love for shoes. “I’ve a weakness for shoes but I restrict myself from buying any more as there is no place in the house to keep any more. The best one (of course, I paid a lot for it) is a pair of black riding shoes I bought from Delhi.” Why? “These are something you can’t wear in office and act like hunterwali. They are for some specific purpose and should be used for that.”
For tech-savvy designer Krsna Mehta, changing his mobile phone every month was a must sometime back, before he got the one he’s using these days. “I used to change my phone every month but not anymore. I’ve got the best phone I could ask for. It’s a mini computer with all the facilities.” No wonder, Krsna has no plans of changing it. “Not at least for two-three months,” he says.
These days, a well-toned body is a must if you want to woo your lady love. Fitness freak A D Singh, who owns Olive, loves spending money on sportswear and sports equipment. “I own three golf sets, 12 golf caps and other golf T-shirts and trousers,” he says. Buying a golf set for more than a lakh was surely an extravagance, Singh feels. But it is fair for his love for the game.

Prahlad got his favourite black riding shoes for Rs 8000. But not that he’s complaining. “They look really smart,” he says. Adds Krsna, “After using my phone for about a month, I don’t regret spending Rs 40,000 for it. It’s simply fabulous!”
