A group of lawyers poked fun at sub-inspector (S-I) Yuvraj Singh Yadav on the court premises on Tuesday noon as they saw him staggering around in an inebriated state.

A group of lawyers poked fun at sub-inspector (S-I) Yuvraj Singh Yadav on the court premises on Tuesday noon as they saw him staggering around in an inebriated state.

The lawyers not only locked up the cop in a chamber, but also informed the news channels to cover the ‘interesting’ episode. S-I Yadav, posted with Reserve Police Lines here, was deputed for escorting under-trials from Lucknow District Jail to the court. Yadav was heading the escort team of 22 under-trials, while they were being taken for hearing. The S-I was roaming around in the court heavily drunk. It was around 2.40 pm when a group of lawyers spotted him and started pulling his leg. While someone was lugging his cap, others were dragging him away.

The sub-inspector, unable to utter a word properly, said, “Pehle mai bahut peeta tha. Par jabse Goswami saab ne kaha hai, maine peena band kar diya hai.” Some of the lawyers informed the SSP about the matter and the latter asked SP (West) DK Rai to look into the matter. Rai, along with other police officials, reached the court and caught the S-I to take him for medical examination. 

Senior cops asked S-I Yadav to go to Police Lines but the latter came back to the court. Station house officer (SHO) Wazirganj police station Udairaj Singh later took the cop in custody and initiated action under Section 34 for moving in a drunken state in a public place. The S-I was released on bail from the police station late in the evening. He was placed under suspension for being caught drunk during duty hours.
