For a parent, nothing is more precious than his or her child. And when that child goes missing, the parents are left with just one thing—hope that their missing child will return home one day.
With this hope in his heart, Satender Tyagi, a Nandgram resident, met the Ghaziabad SSP Raghubir Lal at Harsaon Police Lines in Ghaziabad on Tuesday.
Tyagi couldn’t control himself and broke down in front of the SSP as he narrated how his two children had gone missing within four hours of each other.
Tyagi’s two minor sons, Kunal Tyagi (16) and Ankit Tyagi (12), went missing on December 13, 2009.
“The IO didn’t show any interest in tracing my children,” Tyagi told the SSP.
Tyagi got some consolation—Sub Inspector H.D. Katheriya, the Investigating Officer, was suspended on the spot and the case handed over to a new Investigating Officer.
Tyagi wasn’t the only one whose case was heard by the SSP. Dozens of parents of missing children met the SSP on Tuesday and told him their sorry tale at the same time exposing police laxity in dealing with their cases.
One by one, the parents narrated their suffering. In all, 83 kids have been missing since 2004, police officials said.

{{/usCountry}}Tuesday’s interaction exposed police’s indifferent attitude while dealing with the cases. While some cases didn’t have an IO, many went unregistered and those registered were not converted to section 364 (kidnapping or abduction) of IPC as per the state DGP’s orders.
“We can’t allow this. Action will be taken against our personnel who violate or show laxity. We have asked them to conduct raids at hotels, beggar’s hideouts, brick-kilns to trace the children,” said the SSP.
