Irfan Pathan has been included as the 16th member in the Indian team for the 4th ODI against West Indies to be played in Vadodra on January 31.
Pathan is believed to have regained his form, judging on the basis of his performances in the three Ranji games he has played.
So, a question: If Pathan (undoubtedly our star allrounder if he’s in form) has been judged on the basis of the Ranji games he played, then why the heck hasn’t Virender Sehwag been brought back?
If Pathan, who has had a terrible one-day season since the West Indies last summer (13 games, 12 wickets at 38.75) has rediscovered his mojo, then shouldn’t Sehwag (with an equally average season, 385 runs in 16 games at 25.67 since the Windies), also be deemed to be back in form?
After all, he played a lone game for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, made a quickfire century (106 off 134 balls), took six wickets at 11.50 and led his team to a massive win with a bonus point.
And, if the plan is to include him in the Caribbean squad in any case after trying out every other player in the sun, shouldn’t you be giving him as much match practice as possible?
