I’m borrowing very heavily this week. My words are muddled in my head and I think that Will-I-am and Fergie (Black Eyed Peas) have captured my thoughts far more effectively. The state of my confusion is caused by the Yin and Yang effect… on one hand, I’ve had a great week and on the other is the terrible news of the attacks in Australia. What’s happening to the world we’re living in? Where is the love? Can we hope that this is the storm before the calm descends?
The senselessness of the attack and the racial elements are most disturbing. These were young kids going about their everyday lives and suddenly… wham… hatred smacked them in the head, for no fault of their own. While the attacks have happened outside of our country, we have to internalise this issue and ensure that we, as a nation, don’t make the same mistakes. I’m picking random lyrics from the song Where is the love? by the Black Eyed Peas. It’s relevant and hopefully will get you all thinking.
I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder As I’m getting older, people get colder Most of us only care about money makin’ Selfishness got us followin’ the wrong direction.
Wrong information always shown by the media Negative images is the main criteria Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria.

Don’t ignore this. The more you do, the more it will grow. Make the change, first within yourself before you attempt anything larger. Here in India, we’ve begun to stand up against these random acts of senseless violence. We’re stating that we refuse to be the pawns in some game and we’re not letting our hate drive us to acts that will only create and fuel more hate. That, to me, is a positive sign.
Again I’d like to borrow, but this time from a film... it’s called Pay It Forward. There is a central idea to this film and it’s executed by a small boy. His task — to think of something to change the world and put it into action. His action – paying a favour not back, but forward — repaying good deeds not with payback, but with new good deeds done to three new people. It’s something I believe that can be actually executed in our everyday life with just a little bit of extra effort. Watch the film and you will understand where I am coming from. The film is also beautifully made with some outstanding performances that will help you connect better to the story.
