Forget the ostensibly square confines of politics. Selfies are a big thing and everybody does it, whether it’s your next-door neighbor or the head of a state. And with Barack Obama visiting India, we can’t help but wonder if the US president will pose for a historic selfie with Narendra Modi.

On Thursday, just two days after delivering his ‘State of the Union’ speech to the 114th United States Congress, Barack Obama sat down with three YouTube stars GloZell Green, Bethany Mota and Hank Green to strike a pose. YouTube called it the best selfie ever!

While, Obama is busy breaking records Namo is not far behind. The politician who’s working hard to remake his avatar into one of modernity, recently had a bout of 'selfie-fever.' His list of selfies range from those with his mother to starry-eyed celebrities posing with him.

And now, to woo the youth in Delhi, BJP has launched a 'Selfie with Modi' campaign. The party will set up around 2,500 booths across the city where people will be able to click their photos with a virtual Narendra Modi. The first one was inaugurated by BJP President Amit Shah at central Delhi’s Khan Market on Saturday.

We believe, it’s the masterwork of the Prime Minister himself, but what are the chances of it working? Nothing is fool-proof as both Modi and Obama had their moments of failure.

Even Tumblr page which exposed the ‘Selfies at Funerals’ trend announced it would shut down because there could never be a funeral selfie more twisted than one of the president.

Chetan Bhagat's 40th birthday in April, 2014 couldn't have been made more special -- the then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi not just wished him via a tweet on his special day, but also posed for a selfie with the author on an online micro-blogging platform. (Twitter)

Meanwhile, Modi too has the reputation of being involved in major selfie fails. One of them being the selfie he clicked after casting his vote in Gandhinagar on April 30, 2014.

Modi stood in front of TV cameras and attempted to take a picture while holding his inked finger and a BJP lotus aloft. But the iconic selfie did not go down well with the Election Commission as it insinuated the brazen promotion of the BJP symbol. All photos were asked to be pulled down.

Each one of us has our moments of failure and both Obama and Modi have come a long way. And right before the ongoing three-day state visit by the US president ends, we can’t help but speculate if they are ever going to click one, in the name of politics.
