Residents allege development in this ward is limited to select localities and many say they have not seen the corporator for the last five years.

Resident SK Saxena says the ward is marred by organised encroachments. “I don’t know who our corporator is, but we are not happy with his performance,” he says.

“Have you seen Balu Adda,” asks Anuj, adding, “All encroachment is legalised by the corporator. He never shows up, so we turn to our MLA for the smallest of jobs.” N Ali laments: “Our roads are broken; we have sewer and water problems, but our corporator cares for only those areas from where he hopes to get votes.” Resident of Hydel Colony Vivek says, “We have severe water problem in our colony, we wanted to talk to our corporator but he is available only to a select group.”

But corporator Nagendra Singh Chauhan refutes all the charges. “This is my third term and had I been so bad, people wouldn’t have voted me in. I have carried out development work worth Rs 1.5 crore in the last term. My major work includes laying of sewer lines in the slums of Rammaiyyjipuram and Balu Adda. All the roads in these colonies were made pucca and drains were constructed in Dalibagh.”

As for his alleged arrogant behaviour and his non availability to the residents, he says, “I am always available at my Newal Kishore Road office every morning and evening and anyone can come and meet me.” On promotion of encroachment, he says, “ Encroachments are a universal phenomenon. Name any ward and you will find encroachment. In my ward they are lesser.”
