From being just a ‘hard’ drink kept aside for car-o-bar and post-wedding celebrations, whiskey is fast emerging as the connosieurs’ drink. In fact, whiskey can be called the new wine.

This Saturday, Delhi will play host to the fourth edition of the Icons of Whisky Awards. Organised by Whisky Magazine at the Leela Kempinski. The awards will be handed out in categories, such as Whisky Bar of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, Whisky Chef of the Year and even a lifetime achievement award in the field of whisky-brewing. Last year, this award was won by liquor baron Vijay Mallya.

“The idea behind these awards is to introduce whisky lovers to the best whisky destinations in the country,” says Sandeep Arora of Whisky Magazine. Besides India, these awards also take place in Ireland, Japan and Canada every year. The event will also feature Whisky Luxe — a lifestyle experience centred around the drink.

“Whisky Luxe will be about the very best food-pairing, fashion, cars and even cigars the kind of things whiskey drinkers are used to,” says Arora. Another big highlight of the event will be a special class in whisky-pairing by Rob Allanson, editor of Whisky magazine.
