AFTER TWO years of persistent lobbying, canvassing and demarches by the concerned residents, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation placed a garbage trolley at the garbage collection point at the other side of the road in front of Bungalow No. 204 in E-1 Arera Colony (Ward 50).
This garbage collection point caters to some 20 families of the neighbourhood. A trolley had been placed here some 25 years ago. It became useless due to wear and tear and suddenly went missing about two years ago.
No replacement was forthcoming. As stated above, it took a lot of chasing to get a new trolley. Sometime back, this trolley also went missing. All inquiries as to how this had happened went in vain.
A few days ago, former Minister and Chairman, BMC and MLA of the constituency came on a flying visit to the locality. The case of missing trolley was brought to his notice. The MLA asked the official concerned to have it replaced immediately.
A few days back, the safai karamcharis of the Bittan Market Subzi Market stated depositing the vegetable and animal waste at this point. A huge pile collected at the entrance to the E-1 sector of the Colony. The residents called up the Health Officer.
He took prompt action and had the garbage lifted in an hour’s time. It was a great relief but now from time to time the residents are being subjected to the same problem.

{{/usCountry}}The overflowing sewerage in the neighbourhood makes the matter worse. There are quite a few shoddily covered manholes in the vicinity. One or the other is always overflowing causing problems of hygiene and sanitation.
Since there are no public toilets in the Subzi-Market, hundreds of vendors and visitors occupy the drains, walls, nooks and corners to defecate and to urinate. Can’t the Municipal Corporation do something about it?
