MEMBER OF Legislative Council Dr YD Singh demanded a probe into the anti-Japanese Encephalitis vaccination drive and distribution of mosquito nets among the people.
He made the demand, while expressing concern over the influx of suspected Japanese Encephalitis patients despite vaccination carried out in all seven districts of Gorakhpur and Basti division.
He said it was also a subject of research as to why there were so many JE patients despite immunisation. Talking to mediapersons, Dr Singh said JE had become a complicated diseases. He stressed the need for cooperation between the government, elected people’s representative and non- government organisations to weed out the disease from the region. He said allegations and counter allegations and shirking responsibility was not a solution to the problems. “We have to join hands to check the recurrence of the disease.”
To a question, he said that statement of health officials that deaths were occurring, not due to JE, but other virus infections, was ridiculous.
He said, “There are various types of encephalitis and we cannot be sure that the anti-JE vaccination will control the disease.” He appealed to Health Department officials to be sensitive in treatment of patients.
Singh said the parents of infants should take all steps to save their children from mosquito bites. Meanwhile, the influx of JE cases continued in the BRD Medical College. In the last 48 hours, eight new patients were admitted here and one of them succumbed to the disease.
