Why is LDA shying away from action?

THE LDA remains as reluctant as ever on the issue of initiating action against the illegal occupants of the Nehru Enclave. While the property section staff claimed that it had drawn up a list of the defaulters, the department officials shied away from giving a clear-cut answer as to what action they intended to take against the trespassers.

While the property section staff claimed that it had drawn up a list of the defaulters, the department officials shied away from giving a clear-cut answer as to what action they intended to take against the trespassers.

“We have prepared a status report identifying the defaulters. The report would be submitted to the LDA Vice Chairman on Thursday,” said property officer KK Singh when contacted HT Lucknow Live. Executive Engineer YK Jain, who has been asked by the LDA VC to conduct a door-to-door survey and submit the list of illegal occupants, however, said that the exercise would still take a day or two to be completed. “We would complete the survey by Friday,” said Jain blaming the delay on staff shortage.

Stating that they were aware of the clout wielded by some of the illegal occupants residing in the colony, LDA Secretary RB Yadav said this was one reason why the department was building a water-tight case against them before making its move. “We are going by book, so that when the push comes to shove these people, howesoever well-connected they might be, would be left with no option but forced to leave,” said Yadav. He admitted that the eviction exercise would not be possible without active help and support of the district administration and the police.
