Painters with the brush are passé. Now, even businessmen and politicians are putting their imaginations on the canvas.
India on Canvas is one such collection of works, where each canvas has been created by two persons — one artist and one eminent Indian from a non-art background.
And the best thing about this project is that these paintings will be auctioned for a cause on November 10 at the British high commissioner’s residence. This is an idea developed by the NGO Khushii and conceptualised by its patron Aman Nath.
The proceeds will go to two projects of the NGO benefiting the homeless youth and the elderly says Aman Nath, “The idea is to get maximum people involved in supporting good causes. Almost 250 million people still live below the poverty line and if we get the top minds involved, we can make changes at a faster pace.”
Some of the pairs participating in this venture are CK Birla and Rameshwar Broota, Amita Birla and Vasundhra Tiwari Broota, Ratan Tata and Laxman Shreshta, P. Chidambaram and Anjolie Ela Menon, Sunil Mittal and Amitava Das, Sharmila Tagore Pataudi and Paresh Maity Praful , Patel and Manu Parekh, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Krishen Khanna, Shweta Nanda and Jogen Chowdhury among others.
Talking about involving art with charity , Aman says, “I know the power of art since I’ve always been involved in it. Artists are always doing some charity so we thought it would be a great idea to involve them in it. And if Ratan Tata paints even a flower, people will buy it.”
