A 10-year-old boy was killed and another injured in Baheri area on Sunday evening in yet another instance of wild dogs attacking people in the district. Earlier in February three deaths had occurred from such attacks.
The incident occurred when 10-year-old Amit Maurya went to the nearby forest with his friend Shivam to pluck wild berries.
“Both the boys tried to run from the forest after seeing wild dogs, but Amit reportedly lost his balance and fell in a field near the forest,” PK Yadav, circle officer (CO), Baheri, said. Shivam however managed to escape the scene.
Villagers, alerted by Shivam, were unable to recover Amit’s body, as the animals had eaten it, the CO added.
Enraged villagers later went in search of the dogs in the forest but could not find them.
Reportedly, the administration has planned to send animal control teams to catch and sterilise wild dogs in coming days.
The menace of these animals has become a major concern in the area over the past two years as many people have been attacked and killed by the feral dogs.
According to reports, the Sunday incident was the fourth such death this year, and eighth in the last two years in the same area. Around 250 people have also been injured throughout this year.

{{/usCountry}}Villagers place the blame squarely on the administration for failing to curb the population of these dogs or mitigate the problem in the area.
“The number of wild dogs has increased in the last one year. They roam freely near the village. If the administration cannot do anything, we will manage the population of dogs in our own way,” said Ramniwas, a villager.
