Heavy rainfall in western Rajasthan played havoc with wildlife, killing 50 deer and injuring over 80 deer, chinkaras and other animals on Monday and Tuesday. Though the rains brought relief to the people of western Rajasthan, they killed 40 deer and other animals at the Tal Chhaper Wildlife Sanctuary in Churu district, a sanctuary official said.
Chief Secretary T. Srinivasan, after reviewing the situation in Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Barmer and other districts, directed officials to conduct a survey to assess the damage.
In Jodhpur, 10 deer were killed and 42 injured, said Shravan Singh of the Jodhpur forest department.
The meteorological department said temperatures are likely to rise in the coming days.
“No more rain is predicted in western Rajasthan. The temperature is likely to go up in the coming days but the eastern region is likely to have light and moderate rains for a day or two,” said S.S. Singh, director of the Met department.
