WILL AISHWARYA Rai’s family first marry her off to a peepal tree or a banana tree or the idol of Lord Vishnu before she finally ties the knot with Abhishek Bachchan?

After all that coverage of the celebrity couple Bachchan Junior and Rai performing pujas at the Vishwanath and Sankat Mochan temples, priests here have these suggestions for the well being of Manglik Rai. It is a common practice in Hindu tradition to conduct a ceremonial `Kumbh Vivah' of a daughter, born under the Manglik sign to ward off evil.

Says Sridhar Pandey, a priest who participated in the pujas of the Bachchan family inside the Sankat Mochan temple on Monday: “Since there are reports that Aishwarya Rai is Manglik -- priests would certainly advice performing of Kumbh Vivah before the actual marriage."

Pandey said in Aishwarya’s case, she would have to marry secretly with Lord Vishnu’s idol – either made of gold or silver – in the presence of her parents and a priest before her actual wedding.

Reacting to reports of the Bachchan family and Rai performing puja here, astrologer Chandrashekhar Swami of Bangalore claimed from Dubai, “Abhishek and Aishwarya were in Varanasi at my suggestion”. "I advised the families to perform this corrective puja at an ancient Shiva temple", he said.

Interestingly, Swami is the same astrologer who first claimed that Rai was Manglik. Amitabh’s brother Ajitabh had air dashed to Bangalore early this year to meet Swami at the behest of Rai’s father Krishnaraja Rai with the horoscopes of the two. Ajitabh’s presence here on Monday explains that angle.
