“If the deputy speaker can prove my involvement in corruption, I will gracefully step down and if he cannot prove, then Shullai should resign,” Lanong said, a day after the deputy speaker alleged his involvement in illegal appointment of officials in the Assembly.

The speaker has informed the Chief Minister Donkupar Roy about Shullai’s alleged misbehavior. “If the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance government does not act on the matter, then I will do it on my own using my discretionary powers as a Speaker,” Lanong said.

Shullai is alleged to have verbally abused Lanong when the latter refused to comply with his deputy’s request. It is also alleged that Shullai had banged the table and created a ruckus in the Speaker’s chamber.

Meanwhile, Shullai has denied the allegations of the Speaker and termed the report as an attempt to defame him.
