HARD-PRESSED FOR over a month, the Kanpur police still cannot look forward to a much-needed break. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is likely to visit the city in a day or two with his sops or with an answer to Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s rally.

If buzz in the party circles is anything to go by, government finance and taxation advisor Surendra Mohan Agarwal has already got the nod the for the mega event – this time at historic Parade grounds – for distribution of unemployment allowance and Kanya Vidyadhan money.
This will be the second visit of Chief Minister to the industrial town for the same reason. He had set the tone for assembly elections through an official event at Phoolbagh ground on July 31. There was an enormous labour on part of the police as well as the local administration to organise such event.
First, this event was planned at Armapore stadium but the Chief Minister decided to change the venue to Phoolbagh where congress had planned Sonia’s rally. To make it successful, the cops in addition to the basic law and order duties were involved in arranging transportation.
For a month, the city police like a devoted lot worked day in day out for the event. By the time the euphoria could be over, a major chunk of local police was diverted to Saifai, Etawah, where the Chief Minister was to distribute cheques to boys and girls from three districts at a grand gala event.

{{/usCountry}}With energy levels depleting and constabulary voicing concern over such an hectic schedule, the men-in-khaki came across another litmus test.
The task was much bigger this time as massive crowd was expected to turn up at the Congress rally. So in addition to the local police, the top brass summoned five companies of PAC, 1000 constables, 18 ASPs and 12 Dy SPs and 100 SIs.
Everyone in the department was expecting a lull but they are deprived of that respite as the Chief Minister was again planning to visit the city to give a befitting reply to the Congress rally.
