It seems that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) would not enter into alliance with the Congress in the state, as has been the arrangement in Maharashtra. The party is keen on fighting the state elections alone this time.
The NCP, which does not have much presence in the state, had an MLA in the first assembly elections in the state when Balbir Singh Rawat won on the Ghansali seat. Kunti Parihar of the NCP came second in the Kapkot by-elections in Uttarakhand, which was won by Sher Singh Garhiya of the BJP. Champi Arya fought the Almora Lok Sabha elections unsuccessfully.
The state unit has sent a list of around 30-35 names to the party high command for approval and the list of candidates might be announced on Tuesday. The party’s Uttarakhand in-charge Bhola Bhai Patel is expected to reach Haridwar on Monday where he would apprise party workers of the stand taken by the party high command on alliance and the choice of candidates. He would release the list of candidates in Dehradun on Tuesday.
